Things have been going pretty well with Thomas since my last entry on Halloween night; I simply didn't get the time to write anything prior to this. There's been no incident since the sleeping episode on Halloween morning. He's eating a bit and is fairly energetic. I spoke with one of the doctors earlier today and she figures Thomas will be released sometime tomorrow, since there is really no reason for him to remain hospitalized at this point. Let us pray it remains this way and that Thomas is sleeping comfortably in his own bed tomorrow night.
The next step in the process should take place later in the week. Thomas will need to go in for a day surgery in order to have inserted some sort of special IV port in the upper part of his chest. We were told that, in children, the blood vessels in the arms are not big enough to take the drugs needed to treat the tumor. The port in the upper chest allows them to access a bigger vessel, and it will remain for the duration of his treatment without any major discomfort. While he is asleep for the port installation, they will also do a spinal tap as a part of the whole process. The specialist does not expect to find anything out of the ordinary, as nothing concerning was found in other fluid samples. The spinal tap is just a matter of "crossing the Ts", as he explained it. Let us pray for that as well, dear friends.
Allan.
